Scholarship Information for 2010-2011

- Access College Early Scholarship Program - This scholarship will pay the tuition and mandatory fee costs of a high school student who wishes to take dual enrollment or early admit class at a Nebraska college or university.  To qualify, a high school student, or that student's parent (s)/guardian(s), would have had to experience an extreme hardship (i.e. fire, loss of job, accident, etc.), or currently be eligible for one of the following federal benefit programs: food stamps, free or reduced price lunches, supplemental security income, special supplemental nutrition program or temporary assistance for needy families.  Students need to complete an application and provide documentation that they do meet at least one of the eligibility criteria, that they are enrolled in the college course, and the tuition and mandatory fees the college or university is charging the student for that course. 

- Collegebound Nebraska - University of Nebraska's tuition assistance program for families whose earnings are just beyond Federal Pell Grant eligibility.  No set income level to qualify, but a general guideline is that a typical family of four with one student in college and an annual family income of $50,000.00 or less may qualify for Collegebound Nebraska assistance.  Funds are available on a "first come, first served" basis.  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 1, 2011.

- Wendy's Heisman Award - Honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership.  Must be entering senior year of high school and have at least a "B" grade average and participate in at least one school sponsored sport.  Application deadline is Sunday, October 3, 2010.  Applications are available online at www.wendysheisman.com

- Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Horatio Alger Scholarship - Applicant must intend to pursue and complete a bachelor's (may start at a two-year institution and transfer to a four-year institution).. Critical financial need must be proven.  Involved in co-curricular and community activities.  Have a GPA of 2.0.  Deadline for apply is Saturday, October 30, 2010.  Apply online at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships

- Prudential Spirit of Community Award- This award is available to any student grades 5 - 12.  The focus of the award is volunteer activity in the community that has occurred at least in part after September 1, 2009.  Completed applications should be submitted to the school principal.  Application deadline is November 1, 2010.  Applications are available online at http://spirit.prudential.com or www.principals.org/spirit, click on the "Apply Now" link and follow the directions.

- BKS Burger King Scholars - Details for this scholarship are available online at www.haveityourwayfoundation.org/burger_king_scholars_program.html  Applications are available from Monday, November 15, 2010 to Monday, January 10, 2011.

- Wayne State's RHOP - Wayne State's RHOP deadline is set for Wednesday, December 1, 2010.  This program has been expanded to include Nursing.  Applications are available in the guidance office or online at http://www.wsc.edu/schools/nss/rhop.

- Wayne State College Scholarships - December 1, 2010 is the priority deadline for applying for Wayne State scholarships.  A listing of the scholarships have been given to the seniors and is available in the guidance office.  Information may also be found online at https://myapplication.wsc.edu

- Governor's Opportunity Award - This scholarship is for half-tuition at Chadron, Peru or Wayne.  Applicants must score between 21-24 on the ACT.  Applications are available online at www.nscs.edu.  Click on STUDENTS then scholarships.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, December 1, 2010.

- Elks National Foundation's Most Valuable Student - Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.  Applications are available online at Elks National Foundation's website www.elks.org/enf/scholars  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, December 1, 2010.

- Elks National Foundation's 2010-11 Emergency Education Grant - Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, December 1, 2010.

- Nebraska Elks Association J.B. Ferguson Golf  - Participating in golf is a plus along with other extra-curricular activities.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, December 1, 2010.

- Nebraska Elks Association Past Exalted Ruler's  - Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, December 1, 2010.

- Nebraska Elks Association Vocational Scholarship Grant  - This scholarship is open to high school seniors planning on attending a Trade School, Technical School or Community College.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, December 1, 2010.

_ UN-K Omaha World Herald/Kearney Hub - Applicants must have an ACT composite of 28 or above, rank in the top 10% of their senior class, be a Nebraska resident and provide two letters of recommendation.  Deadline for applying is December 1, 2010.  Applications are available online at www.unk.edu/honors

- Best Buy - This scholarship is open to students in grades 9-12 who have "solid" grades plus community service or work experience.  Applications are available online at www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com  The deadline for applying is from Monday, December 27, 2010 to Wednesday, February 16, 2011.

- Board of Trustees - This scholarship is for full-tuition at Chadron, Peru or Wayne.  Applicants must score 25 or higher on the ACT.  Applications are available online at www.nscs.edu.  Click on STUDENTS then scholarships.  Deadline for applying is Saturday, January 15, 2011.

- Nebraska Educational Office Professionals Association - This scholarship is open to seniors considering entering an office related profession.  Applications are available in the guidance office or online at http://neopa.unl.edu  The deadline for applying is Saturday, January 15, 2011.

- Susan G. Komen for the Cure College Scholarship - Applicants must have lost a parent/guardian to breast cancer or be a breast cancer survivor diagnosed at 25 years or younger, must be a high school senior (also open to college students who are freshman, sophomores or juniors) and have a high school GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.  Applications are available online at www.komen.org/scholarship  Deadline for applying is Saturday, January 15, 2011.

- Platte Valley Cattlemen - Applicants must be a resident of Platte, Butler, Colfax or Polk Counties.  They also must be entering a course of study in agriculture.  Deadline for applying is Saturday, January 29, 2011.  Applications are available in the guidance office.

- Norma Ross Walter Scholarship - Applicants must be females planning to enroll as English majors at accredited colleges or universities. (Journalism is NOT included)  Selection is based on intellectual promise, creativity and character of the applicant.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Monday, January 31, 2011.

- Bill's Food Mart - This scholarship is open to ALL Howells seniors.  The student must register in person at Bill's Food Mart.  The deadline for applying (in person) is Friday, January 31, 2011.  Each student was given information about this scholarship

- UN-K's Health Science Scholars - This one-year program is awarded to academically promising students interested in health science careers.  Applicants must be admitted to UN-K by Tuesday, February 1, 2011, complete the Health Science Scholars Application by February 1st, have an ACT composite of 22 or higher and have a high school GPA of 3.0.  Applications are available at http://www.uknk.edu/healthsciencescholarships

- Davis-Chambers Freshman - Applicants must show financial need.  Applications are available online at www.nscs.edu.  Click on STUDENTS then scholarships.  Deadline for applying is Tuesday, February 1, 2011.

- Elks National Foundation Legacy Awards - Applicants must be children and grandchildren of dues-paying Elks members.  Applications are available online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars  Deadline for applying is Tuesday, February 1, 2011.

- Nebraska Society of Professional Engineers - Applicants must be planning to attend a four year engineering program that is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET-EAC).  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline for applying is Tuesday, February 1, 2011.

- Elks National Foundation Emergency Educational Grants - Applicants must be children and grandchildren of dues-paying Elks members.  Applications are available online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars  Applications are available between July 1 and December 31 of the academic year for which assistance is desired.

- Northeast Community College's Deans - Howells selects one recipient for this scholarship.  Preference is given to GPA, class rank, ACT and financial need.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline for applying is Friday, January 21, 2011.

- Northeast Community College's Lee D. Rawhouser - The runner up to the NCC's Deans Scholarship will be the nominee  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline for applying is Friday, January 21, 2011.

- Northeast Community College's Board of Governors - This scholarship is open to all students planning on attending Northeast  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline for applying is Tuesday, February 1, 2011.

- Northeast Community College's President's Early Entry - This scholarship is open to all students planning on attending Northeast  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline for applying is Tuesday, February 1, 2011.

- Northeast Community College's Admission Academic - Applicants must have a ACT score of 24 or above and a high school GPA of 3.75 or higher.  Applications are available in the guidance office. The deadline for applying is Tuesday, February 1, 2011.

- KFC Colonel's Scholars - Applicants must be high school seniors with financial need have an entrepreneurial spirit, high school GPA of 2.75, and pursue a bachelor's degree.  Applications are available online at www.kfcscholars.org  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, February 9, 2011.

- NMC Diesel Technology Sponsorships & Caterpillar Scholarship Programs - Applicants must be attending CCC Hastings Campus and entering the area of diesel technology.  Applications are available online at http://www.nebraskamachinery.com/whatsnew.asp?id=4  Deadline for applying is Friday, February 11, 2011.

- AXA Achievement Scholarship - Applicants must have ambition, drive, determined to set and reach goals, respect self, family, and community and have the ability to succeed at college.  Applications are available online at www.axa-achievement.com  Deadline for applying is Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

- Cargill Community - This scholarship is open to all students.  Selection is based on academic achievement and leadership in extracurricular and civic activities.  Children of Cargill employees' children are NOT eligible for this scholarship.  Applications are available online at www.ffa.org  Deadline for applying is Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

- Cargill Scholarship Programs for Sons and Daughters - This scholarship is open to children of Cargill employees'.  Applications are available online at www.ffa.org  Deadline for applying is Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

- Monsanto 2011 Commitment to Agriculture - Applicants must be pursing a career in an agriculture-related field.  Applications are available online at www.monsanto.com/scholarships OR www.ffa.org  Deadline for applying is Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

- Central Community College's ACT Advantage Scholarship - Applicants must have an ACT composite of 21 or higher and a GPA of 2.5.  Applicants must have submitted their ACT scores to CCC.  Applications will be sent from CCC directly to the student's home address.  Deadline for applying is Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

- Wayne State College Music Scholarships - Wayne State Department of Music will have auditions for scholarships on Friday, February 18, 2011.

- Nebraska Press Association Foundation - Applicants must be planning to enroll in post-secondary programs in Nebraska colleges or universities leading to a career in print journalism.  Preference will be given to students with specific interest in news, editorial, photography, circulation, production, or advertising careers on weekly, semi-weekly, or daily newspapers.  Selection will also include scholastic ability and good citizenship in school and community.  Applications are available in the guidance office. Applications MUST be in the hands of the selection committee by Friday, February 25, 2011. 

- Wayne State College's High School Art Scholarship - Applicants must be interested in attending Wayne State as an art major and submit 10 high resolution jpgs of their artwork in any media on a CD-ROM.  Photos of sculptures should include two or three views.  Must include a letter expressing your interest in why you would like to be considered for an art scholarship at Wayne State along with two letters of recommendation.  Applications are available in the guidance office or online at www.wsc.edu/schools/ahu/artd/  Deadline for applying is Monday, February 28, 2011.

- National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Scholar/Essay - Applicants must have two of the following B+ average and or ranked in top 25% and or have an ACT composite of 24 or higher.  Also must have participated in two sports for at least two years in each sport.  Must have earned at least one varsity letter in each of two sports.  Complete an essay.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, February 28, 2011.

- Susan T. Buffett Scholarship - Applicants must be a Nebraska resident, have a GPA of 2.5, and furnish a completed FAFSA.  Application information can be found at www.buffettscholarships.org  Deadline for applying is Tuesday, March 1. 2011.

- American Legion Auxiliary's Averly Elaine Kewriakedes Memorial - This scholarship preferably will be awarded to a female enrolled at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln who plans to teach middle school or junior high school social studies.  Each local unit may submit one application.  Applications are available in the guidance office or http://www.nebraskalegionaux.net/scholarships.htm  The deadline for applying is March 1, 2011.

- American Legion Auxiliary's Graduate - Applicant must be veteran-connected and hold a bachelor's degree.  Each local unit may submit one application.  Applications are available in the guidance office or http://www.nebraskalegionauxnet/scholarships.htm  .  The deadline for applying is March 1, 2011.

- American Legion Auxiliary's Licensed Practical Nursing - Applicant must be veteran-connected and a resident of Nebraska for three years.  Each local unit may submit one application.  Applications are available in the guidance office or http://www.nebraskalegionauxnet/scholarships.htm  .  The deadline for applying is March 1, 2011.

- American Legion Auxiliary's Ruby Lorraine Paul - Applicant must be veteran-connected and a resident of Nebraska for three years.  This scholarship excludes applicants enrolled in a school of nursing.  Each local unit may submit one application.  Applications are available in the guidance office or http://www.nebraskalegionaux.net/scholarships.htm  .  The deadline for applying is March 1, 2011.

- American Legion Auxiliary's Ruby Paul Campaign Fund- Applicant must be veteran-connected, a resident of Nebraska for three years and have maintained a "B" or better average the last two semesters of high school.  Each local unit may submit one application.  Applications are available in the guidance office or http://www.nebraskalegionaux.net/scholarships.htm  .  The deadline for applying is March 1, 2011.

- American Legion Auxiliary's Nurse's Gift Tuition- Applicant must be veteran-connected.  Each local unit may submit one application.  Applications are available in the guidance office or http://www.nebraskalegionaux.net/scholarships.htm  .  The deadline for applying is March 1, 2011.

- American Legion Auxiliary's Student Aid Grand or Vocational Technical- Applicant must be veteran-connected.  Each local unit may submit one application.  Applications are available in the guidance office or http://www.nebraskalegionaux.net/scholarships.htm  .  The deadline for applying is March 1, 2011.

- American Legion Auxiliary's Roberta Marie Stretch Memorial - Applicant must be veteran-connected.  Preference will be given to former Girls State Citizens.  Each local unit may submit one application.  Applications are available in the guidance office or http://www.nebraskalegionaux.net/scholarships.htm  .  The deadline for applying is March 1, 2011.

- American Legion Auxiliary's National President's Scholarship - Applicant must be veteran-connected during particular dates and must complete 50 hours of volunteer service within the community.  Preference will be given to former Girls State Citizens.  Each local unit may submit one application.  Applications are available in the guidance office or http://www.legion-aux.org/Scholarships/NationalPresident/index.aspx.  The deadline for applying is March 1, 2011.

- American Legion Auxiliary's Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students - Applicant must be a member of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of the American Legion and shall have paid dues for the two preceding years and for the calendar year in which application is made.  Each local unit may submit one application or http://www.legion-aux.org/Scholarships/NonTraditionalStudent/index.aspx. .  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline for applying is March 1, 2011.

- American Legion Auxiliary's Spirit of Youth Scholarship for Junior Members - Applicant must be junior members of the American Legion Auxiliary and paid dues for the past three years and hold a card for 2011 year.  Each local unit may submit one application.  Applications are available in the guidance office or http://www.legion-aux.org/Scholarships/SpiritofYouth/index.aspx.   The deadline for applying is March 1, 2011.

- Central Community College - Students interested in attending Central Community College must have their scholarship applications in by Tuesday, March 1, 2011.  Applications are available online at www.cccneb.edu/financialaid

- Virginia & Tom Pierce Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship is intended for a graduating student with a permanent physical disability or to a graduating student who has a parent(s) with a permanent physical disability.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Tuesday, March 1, 2011.

- US Bank Scholarship - Scholarship information and application are found at usbank.com/scholarship  Applications are accepted from October, 2010 through March, 2011.

- St. Francis Memorial Hospital Foundation Scholarship - This scholarship is open to any student who plans to pursue a health related career.  Students need to complete the application and have two letters of reference.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, March 11, 2011.

- Eugene L. Sucha, M.D. Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship will be awarded to students demonstrating high academic achievement, community service, leadership, religious participation, and demonstration of high personal character.    Students need to complete the application and have two letters of reference.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, March 11, 2011.

- Salvation Army's D.J. Hero Scholarship - Applicant must be able to demonstrate how they have shown courage by acting independently.  How they have overcome challenges/adversity.  Be able to identify their goals, greatest achievement in life and express enthusiasm for life.  Applications are available online at www.GiveSalvationArmy.org  Deadline for applying is Friday, March 11, 2011.

-Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship - Applicants must have scored at least a 30 composite on their ACT.  Applications are available online at www.education.ne.gov/byrd  Deadline for applying is Tuesday, March 15, 2011.

- Omaha Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals Scholarship - Applicants must have a goal of achieving an undergraduate degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.  Applications are available online at www.aitpomaha.org  Deadline for applying is Friday, March 18, 2011.

- Gus Swanson Memorial Scholarship - Applicants must be planning to enroll in a Nebraska college or university and pursue a degree in one of the following fields: advertising, marketing, mass communications (print or broadcast), communication studies, public relations, journalism and graphic design/desktop publishing.  Applications are available online at www.swansonrussell.com  Deadline for applying is Friday, March 18, 2011.

- UN-K's Opportunity Fund Scholarship - Applicants must graduate from a Class C or D Nebraska High School, be admitted to UN-K, have NOT received any othe scholarships from UN-K and must be nominated the their high school guidance counselor.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Thursday, March 21, 2011.

- Nebraska Coaches Association Scholarship - Applicants must be in the upper 25% of their class, must be at least a 2 year participant in 2 sports, must have earned a varsity letter in 2 sports and have an ACT composite of 24 or higher.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, March 25, 2011.

-Nebraska Actuaries Club & the Nebraska Insurance Federation Scholarship - Applicant must major in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Economics with an interest in pursuing an actuarial career.  Applications are available online at www.n-a-c.org  Deadline for applying is Thursday, March 31, 2011.

- Columbus United Federal Credit Union Scholarship - Applicants must be a member with a primary account in good standing with Columbus Federal Credit Union.  Applications may be picked-up during regular business hours at the Credit Union.  Deadline for applying is Thursday, March 31, 2011.

- Buick Achievers Scholarship - Applicants must plan on attending a 4 year college or university and major in science, technology, engineering, math, business administration, finance marketing or design.  Applications are available online at WWW.BUICKACHIEVERS.COM  Deadline for applying is Thursday, March 31, 2011.

- UN-L's Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity's Balanced Man Scholarship - Applicants must be planning on attending UN-L.  They must show a strong commitment to personal and academic development.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Thursday, March 31, 2011.

- Catholic Order of Foresters Scholarship - This scholarship is open to all seniors in Dodge and Howells High Schools.  Applications were handed out to all seniors.  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 1, 2011.

- Johnny Baxter Carriage House Foundation Scholarship - The applicant must be entering a community college in an automotive field.  Applications are due by Friday, April 1, 2011.

- UN-L's Alpha Gamma Sigma Scholarship - This scholarship is open to young men who are planning on attending UN-L and have an interest in the Greek system.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 1, 2011.

- Stanley & Emilie (Krupka) Cada Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship is open to Howells students.  The application MUST BE TYPRED.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 1, 2011.

- Elsie Engel Scholarship - Two scholarships will be awarded - to one male and one female.  Applicants must reside in rural Colfax County, have a 2.5 out of a 4.0 GPA, and pursue education at a university, college, trade or technical school.  Applicant need not pursue a career in agriculture but that maybe a factor in the selection process.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 1, 2011.  

- Wayne State College Music Scholarships - Wayne State Department of Music will have auditions for scholarships on Friday, April 8, 2011.

- Wade Wendt 4-H Scholarship - This scholarship is open to any Colfax County senior who is active in 4-H.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 8, 2011.

- KTIC 107.9 The Bull's Russ Herman Scholarship - One scholarship will be awarded to a female and one to a male student at each of the sports booster schools.  The winner should demonstrate athletic, academic achievements, leadership and a positive attitude.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

- Loretta Dowd Mach Scholarship - Applicants must be attending a Colfax County school, provide a statement of anticipated post-secondary education expenses, anticipated sources of income and a copy of the student's SAR.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

- Eastern Nebraska/Western Iowa Car Council's Paul High Memorial Scholarship -This scholarship is open to anyone who is planning on enrolling or is currently enrolled in an automotive technology program or pursing a career in the automotive industry.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011. 

- James M. Cox Foundation Scholarship - This scholarship is awarded on the basis of need, and therefore, a FAFSA must be completed.  Also requested is a completed, printed College Funding Estimator and Results for each college choice from EducationalQuest web site www.educationquest.org  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.

- Cuming County Feeders Association Scholarship - This scholarship will be awarded to Cuming County student who is planning on pursuing a degree with an agricultural major.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.

- Cuming County Pork Producers Scholarship - One scholarship will be awarded to a Cuming County student of surrounding school districts.  The student must be pursuing a two or four year degree.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.

- Lueshen's Birders Scholarship - Applicants need to be planning to enter a biological field of study with special emphasis on wildlife and environmental conservation, or who is currently enrolled in such a program.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.

- Platte County Farm Bureau Scholarship - Applicants must be residents of Platte County or a member of a Platte County Farm Bureau Family.  Preference will be given to Production Agriculture.  Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.

- Columbus Area Artists Visual Arts Scholarship - Applicants must reside in Platte, Polk, Bulter, Boone or Colfax Counties, has maintained a minimum of a "B" grade and is planning on an art major or minor in a post-secondary school.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.

- Howells American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship - Applications were given to all seniors.  The deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.

- Howells American Legion Scholarship - Applications were given to all seniors.  The deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.

- Brad Sindelar Scholarship - Applications were given to all seniors.  The deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.

- Heard Scholarship - This scholarship is open to all Howells seniors.  Preference will be given to seniors who have business experience by owning their own business or working in a business experience.  The deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.

- Cooperative Supply Inc. Scholarship - Applications were given to all seniors.  he deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.  This scholarship is open to seniors going into agriculture.

- Homestead Bank Howells Branch Scholarship - Applications were given to all seniors.  The deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.

- Howells Community Club Scholarship - Applications were given to all seniors.  The deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.

- Howells Knights of Columbus Pedal Tractor Pullers Scholarship - Applications were given to all seniors.  The deadline for applying is Friday, April 15, 2011.  Preference will be given to seniors going into the field of agriculture.

- Pat Tillman Foundation Tillman Military Scholars' Scholarship - Applicants must be a veteran or active service member or a dependent of service members.  Applications will open online on Monday, March 7th. at www.pattillmanfoundation.org

- Central Community College's Summer Scholarship - This scholarship is available for current junior and senior students interested in taking a summer course at CCC.  Students will be asked to submit ACT, COMPASS or ASSET scores for the scholarship.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, April 20, 2011.  Applications are available at CCC Admissions Offices.

- Arc of Colfax County Scholarship - Applicants must be a resident of Colfax County or attending a Colfax County school.  Must plan on majoring in Special Education or already in college majoring in Special Education.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, April 20, 2011.

- Marianne Beel Memorial Scholarship - Applicant must be seeking some type of post-secondary degree or certificate in a communications-related field, submit a high school transcript, write a 250 word essay.  Preference will be given to students living in the Sandhills region.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, April 20, 2011.

- UN-L's Phi Delta Kappa's Future Educators Scholarship - The applicant must be attending UN-L and major in education with the intent of becoming elementary, middle level, secondary, special education, or English (ELL) teachers.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 29, 2011.

- UN-K's Sigma Phi Epsilon's Balanced Man Scholarship - The applicant must be male freshman student beginning class at UN-K in the Fall of 2011.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline for applying is Saturday, April 30, 2011.

- Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship - Applicant must be under 25 years of age and answer two essay questions.  Applications are available online - website information available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Saturday, April30, 2011.

- Faith Regional Health Services Volunteers Scholarship - Applicants must be pursuing a career as a registered nurse.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Sunday, May 1, 2011.

- UN-O's Maverick Service Scholarship - Applicants must be first-time entering freshmen students who have demonstrated exceptional volunteerism and leadership in high school and plan on attending UN-O in Fall 2011.  Applicants will become involved with the UN-O Service-Learning Academy which is committed to building bridges between the campus and the Omaha Community.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Sunday, May 1, 2011.

- Howells Education Association Scholarship - Applications were given to all seniors.  The deadline for applying is Thursday, May 5, 2011.  This scholarship is open to seniors entering into the field of education.

- Dial My Dentist Scholarship - Applicants must be between 16 and 21 years old.  In the fall of September 2011 the student must be attending college or university full-time.  Application information is available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Friday, May 6, 2011.

- S.S. Scholarship - Applicant must be 21 or under.  Application information is available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, June 1, 2011.

- Big Dig Scholarship - Applicants must submit an essay under 1000 words and are currently in high school or in their first two years of college/university.   Application information is available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, June 1, 2011.

- Insurance Studies Scholarship - Applicants must be attending a Nebraska community college with an accredited program of study recognized by Project InVEST.  The current accredited program in Nebraska is at Northeast CC.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, June 1, 2011.

- 2011 ICBC Scholarship - Applicants must be between the ages of 17-21 and enrolled or intending on enrolling in any course.  Application information is available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, June 15, 2011.

- UN-K's Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity Scholarship - Applicants must be incoming freshmen males at UN-K.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline for applying is Monday, August 1, 2011.

- Elk's Emergency Education Grants - This program was established to assist the children of Elks members who lost their lives or became incapacitated as a result of serving in the Armed Forces during World War II and children from families where an Elk parent is deceased or totally disabled.  Applications are available online at www.scholarship@elks.org  Applications are available from July 1 and December 31 of the academic year for which assistance is desired.
