Did you know that more than 2.3 million drivers and passengers were treated in emergency departments as the results of being injured in motor vehicle crashes in the past year? Young adults 18-24 have the highest crash-related injury rates of all adults. The lifetime costs of crash-related injuries among drivers were $70 billion in the past year. Seat belt use reduces serious crash-related injuries and deaths by 50%.
In the past year in Nebraska of those using seat belts, 48,700 who were in vehicle crashes were not injured, 11,511 were injured and 51 were killed. Of those not wearing seat belts, 19,839 were not injured, 3,438 were injured and 108 were killed.
Seat belts save lives. Buckle up every time you drive or ride, no matter how short the trip and encourage passengers to do the same!
