Scholarship Information for 2011-2012
- Access College Early Scholarship Program - This scholarship will pay the tuition and mandatory fee costs of a high school student who wishes to take dual enrollment or early admit class at a Nebraska college or university. To qualify, a high school student, or that student's parent (s)/guardian(s), would have had to experience an extreme hardship (i.e. fire, loss of job, accident, etc.), or currently be eligible for one of the following federal benefit programs: food stamps, free or reduced price lunches, supplemental security income, special supplemental nutrition program or temporary assistance for needy families. Students need to complete an application and provide documentation that they do meet at least one of the eligibility criteria, that they are enrolled in the college course, and the tuition and mandatory fees the college or university is charging the student for that course.
- Wendy's Heisman Award - Honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. Must be entering senior year of high school and have at least a "B" grade average and participate in at least one school sponsored sport. Application deadline is Sunday, October 2, 2011. - Horatio Alger Association - Applicants must have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Students may submit their application online at www.horatioalger.com/scholarships Applications are open from August 12 - October 30, 2011.
- Coca-Cola Scholars - Applicants must demonstrate leadership, commitment to community, academic achievement and have a GPA of 3.0. Applications are available online at www.coca-colascholars,org, Deadline for applying is Monday, October 31, 2011.
- Prudential Spirit of Commuity Award - Applicants must show the spirit of volunteerism through volunteer work. Applications are available online at http://spirit.prudential.com or www.nassp.org/spirit Applications must be submitted to the school principal by Tuesday, November 1, 2011.
- UN-K's Omaha World Herald/Kearney Hub - Applicants must have at least a 30 ACT and a minimum class rank in the upper 10% of the senior class. Deadline for applying is Tuesday, November 15, 2011.
- Susan G. Komen for the Cure - Applicant must have lost a parent/guardian to breast caner or be a breast cancer survivor diagnosed at 25 years or younger. Must be a high school senior, college freshman, sophomore or junior. Must be planning on attending a state supported college. Have a GPA of 2.8 or higher. - Wayne State's RHOP - Wayne State's RHOP deadline is set for Wednesday, December 1, 2011. This program has been expanded to include Nursing. Applications are available in the guidance office or online at http://www.wsc.edu/schools/nss/rhop
- Nebraska Amateur Softball Association - The Nebraska Softball Foundation awards two separate scholarships. One to a player that has been a registered softball player with Nebraska ASA and the second scholarship is for officials, or family members who have been a registered official with Nebraska ASA. - Governor's Opportunity Award - Applicant must complete an admissions application to Chadron, Peru or Wayne State College and a scholarship application found at www.nscs.edu Applicant must have at least a 21-24 on the ACT and complete an essay about why they would like to stay and work in Nebraska after college graduation. Deadline for applying is Thursday, December 1, 2011.
- AXA Achievement - Applicant should be active in the community, led a project that benefits others or overcome personal challenges. Apply online at www.axa-achievement.com Deadline for applying is Thursday, December 1, 2011.
- Elks National Foundation's Most Valuable Student - Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need. Applications are available in the guidance office and online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars Deadline for applying is December 2, 2011. Applications must be received in Norfolk, NE before 6:30 P.M. on December 2, 2011.
- Nebraska Elks Vocational Scholarship Grant - Applicants must plan to attend a Trade School, Technical School or Community College. Applicants can NOT submit applications to both the Vocational Scholarship and the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship. Applications are available in the guidance office. - Nebraska Elks Association J.B. Ferguson Golf - Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for applying is Friday, December 2, 2011.

- Nebraska Junior Chamber United States JCI Senate Foundation - Applicants must be a child or, member of, or former member of the Nebraska Junior Chamber who plans on continuing their education at an approved post-secondary school. - Nebraska Educational Office Professionals Association - Applicants must be considering entering an office related profession and have completed two or more business education classes. - Willa Cather Foundation's Norma Ross Walter Scholarship - This scholarship is open to female high school students who are planning to major in English. Applications are available in the guidance office or online at www.WillaCather.org Deadline for applying is Friday, January 27, 2012.
- Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association - Applicants must be planning on becoming teachers or other related occupations, such as counselors or media specialists. - Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association's Gary Fisher Fine Arts - Applicants who excel in fine arts and are planning to major in fine arts in college. - Davis-Chambers Scholarship - Applicants must demonstrate academic preparedness by their ACT scores, GPA and class rank, through demographic diversity including geography diversity, first generation status, low income, single family household and life experiences or involvement in diverse organizations or communities. - UN-K's Health Science Scholars - Applicants must be promising students interested in health science careers. Application deadline is Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Must have an ACT composite of 22 or higher, be ranked in the upper half of graduating class and have at least a 3.0 GPA. The application is available at http://www.unk.edu/healthsciencescholarships/
- UN-K's Multicultural Community Service - Applicants will be selected primarily on a demonstrated commitment to diversity/multiculturalism by leadership and participation in school and community activities. - UN-K's Peter Kiewit Foundation Educators Opportunity - Applicants will pursuing classroom teaching credentials at UN-K. Recipients must demonstrate fluency in both writing and speaking Spanish, demonstrate financial need by completing FAFSA and declare a major in teacher education. - Davis-Chambers Freshman - Applicant must complete an admissions application to Chadron, Peru or Wayne State College and a scholarship application found at www.nscs.edu Applicant must have a 3.0 high school GPA, provide one or more letters of recommendation from a high school administrator or teacher and complete an estimated FAFSA OR go to www.educationquest.org and use the College Funding Estimator. - Nebraska Society of Professional Engineers - Applicants must plan to attend a four year engineering program that is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditiona Board for Engineering and Technology. - Northeast Community College - Deadline for Northeast CC' scholarships is Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Scholarship applications are available online at www.northeast.edu/scholarships
- Collegebound Nebraska - University of Nebraska's tuition assistance program for families whose earnings are just beyond Federal Pell Grant eligibility. No set income level to qualify, but a general guideline is that a typical family of four with one student in college and an annual family income of $50,000.00 or less may qualify for Collegebound Nebraska assistance. Funds are available on a "first come, first served" basis. Deadline for applying is Wednesday, February 1, 2012 FAFSA deadline - June 1, 2012 for all other documents. - Northeast Community College's Deans - Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time degree-seeking student at Northeast and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0. Applications are available in the guidance office. Selection is made at the local level. Application deadline is Wednesday, February 1, 2012.
- KFC Colonel's Scholars - Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75, plan to pursue a bachelor's degree, US citizen and demonstrate financial need. Applications are available online at www.kfcscholars.org Applications are accepted from Thursday, December 1, 2011 through Wednesday, February 8, 2012.
- Cargill Community Scholarship Program - Applicants do NOT have to belong to FFA. Applicants are selected on academic achievement and leadership in extracurricular and civic activites. - Central Community College's ACT Advantage - Applicants must have a ACT composite of 21 or higher and a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applicants must send their ACT scores to Central Community College. Deadline for applying is Wednesday, February 15, 2012.
- Southeast Community College - Applications must be completed by Wednesday, February 22, 2012.

- Nebraska Press Association Foundation - Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll in post-secondary educational programs in Nebraska-based colleges and universities leading to careers in print journalism. Preference will be given to students with specific interests in news, editorial, photography, circulation, production or advertising. Deadline for applying is Friday, February 24, 2012. - Buick Achievers - Applicants must be planning on enrolling full time at a four year college or university and major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry. - The Salvation Army's D.J.'s Hero Award - Applicants must describe in detail how they demonstrate courage by acting independently and explain in detail how they have overcome challenges/adversity. - Columbus Area Artists Visual Arts - Applicants must reside in Platte, Polk, Butler, Boone or

- Arc of Colfax County - Applicants must be a resident of Colfax County or attend a Colfax County school. Applicants must be planning on a major in Special Education in college. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for applying is Saturday, April 14, 2012.
- Eastern Nebraska/Western Iowa Car Council's Paul High Memorial - Applicants must be planning on enrolling or currently enrolled in an automotive technology program at an accredited trade school, community college, college or university. - Platte County Farm Bureau - Applicants must be a resident of Platte County or if not a Platte County resident must be a member of a Platte Valley Farm Bureau Family. Preference will be given to Production Agriculture, but each application will receive consideration. Applications are available in the guidance office. - Cuming County Feeders - Applicant must be a Cuming County resident, planning on a degree with an agricultural major and planning on attending a vocational school, junior college or four year institution. - Wade Wendt 4-H - Applicants must be a Colfax County senior who is active in 4-H. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for applying is Monday, April 16, 2012.
- Farmers Union Coop Supply CO. - Applicants should be pursuing a two or four year degree in livestock production, crop production of an Ag business field. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for applying is Thursday, April 19, 2012.
- Central Community College's Summer Scholarship - Applicants must be current juniors or graduating seniors. If awarded the scholarship, students will need to be registered for a summer course prior to Thursday, May 10, 2012. Deadline for applying is Friday, April 20, 2012. - Lueshen's Birders - Applicants must be planning to enter a biological field of study with special emphasis on wildlife and environmental conservation, or who may be currently enrolled in such a program. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for applying is Wednesday, April 25, 2012.
- Catholic Order of Foresters - This scholarship is open to all seniors at Howells High School. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for applying is Wednesday, April 25, 2012.
- Pheasants Forever - Applicants must be going into wildlife management or soil conservation, live in Colfax, Cuming, Dodge, Madison, Platte or Stanton counties. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline for applying is Friday, April 27, 2012.
- Faith Regional Health Services Volunteers of Norfolk - Applicants must be continuing education for a career as a registered nurse. Deadline for applying is Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Applications are available in the guidance office.
- Cuming County 4-H - Applicants must be an active 4-H member through their senior year. Seniors will be sent details in May.
- Nebraska State College System Advantage - Applicant must be a Nebraska resident, a Federal Pell Grant recipient, first-time freshman and enrolled in at least 12 on-campus credit hours each semester. Must have Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and application for admissions complete by Friday, June 1, 2012.
- Southeast Community College Scholarship online applications. Deadlines vary depending on when a student is going to enroll. For new SCC students planning to enroll for "Summer Quarter" (July-September) the deadline is May 1-22, 2012 - "Fall Quarter" (October - December) the deadline is August 1 - 22, 2012.
